Day 6 West Yellowstone through Yellowstone

Today was a wild day!  We had a lot of people going in a variety of different ways.  I am going to try and hit the highlights of everyone’s day (that I can remember)

We left West Yellowstone with two groups and both were headed to Old Faithful Inn.  One group left early (Simon, Laura, and Theresa).  The other group had 6 riders (Patrick, Tommy, Lisa, Norman, Graeme, and Gavin) and were headed to Old Faithful Inn to met the first group. After about 15 miles, I (Patrick) had enough and climbed in with Chuck driving SAG.  Everyone else made it to the Inn (about 31 miles).  We had a great lunch and Norman and Tommy caught up on old times 47 years ago when they worked in Yellowstone!  Most of us caught Old Faithful blow which was a very neat experience.

Then one group hung around a bit longer.  The other group (Simon, Laura, and Theresa) continued riding.  Up a couple of passes they went which looked very difficult!  We continued riding behind them in SAG for quite a while.  After about 50 miles Laura and Theresa were ready to call it a day.  We picked them up and took them to Flagg Ranch where they were to stay for the night.  We then went back to find Simon.  We looked and looked but were afraid something had happened to him!  Now for those of you who don’t know, Simon is by far the strongest rider in the group.  Keep in mind he,like most of us, rode 85 miles yesterday. We had almost turned around when we spotted him.  He had missed the turn to Flagg Ranch and kept riding.  It turned out he had ridden about 90 miles on the day!  The guy is a beast!

Anyway, the rest of us found our places to stay for the night and are bunking down.

Some animals we spotted today were, Bison, a fox, elk ( I actually chased one down in the woods with HUGE antlers), a coyote, and saw some bear tracks!  Phillip and I almost spotted a Grizzly Bear with its cubs, but she never came out of her hiding place. We hope to catch more tomorrow.

One of our team members is leaving tomorrow…Gavin we really enjoyed it buddy.  Have a great trip back to Scotland and God Speed my friend…
